Weekends
It isn't just the teachers who come in on the weekends to do things around the school. Check out Connor and his Granddad who came to school on Sunday morning to move the dirt they donated to the school.
Thanks Kennedy family - we are going to love getting our gardens looking amazing!

Junior's are safety heroes.
Today the junior school took advantage of the seniors being away to practice our playground emergency procedures. Mrs T rang the bell long and hard and we all walked to the field and lined up in our class lines.
After the teachers counted that we were all here we waited for Mrs T to shout a word. She did and we all knew what to do. "Earthquake Drop!" We all become a lot of turtles.
Yah - YMS juniors are safety conscious.

Beach Education
What a fantastic day Te Pihinga and Te Kakano had at Beach Education today. It was a beautiful day and the beach was sparkling. Everyone was very excited to be going on a bus and going to the beach. I think the parents and teachers were as well, from their big smiles.
We spent some time learning about beach and water safety from our lovely lifeguards. Alexia got to be a mini lifeguard and rescue Louis.
Finally it was time for togs and to get in the water. There aren't any photos of us in the water because we were all having too much fun. The adults who were in the water were very impressed with the way all the children were so brave in getting into the water. Many of them tried going out further than they would have normally and there was a lot of squealing and delight on all the children's faces. Mr Robertson also had a lot of fun, surfing the ways like a professional.
After lunch we played Fruit Salad and then built sandcastles on the sand. There were some amazing creations.
Then sadly, it was time to get our bags, get on the bus and go back to school But it was a really wonderful day.

Junior Triathlon
What a way to start our second week! We were all ready to go for the triathlon and with the help from our friends in Kauri we were on our way to the field. Te Pihinga all did their very best in the running, biking/scootering and swimming. Our year 3's even completed the triathlon all by themselves, way to go. Miss Sutherland and Mrs Spragg are proud of everyone in Te Pihinga.

I Like Myself
This week we have been reading a story called 'I Like Myself' by Karen Beaumont. We have explored how we are each special and different. And most of all, how we should just like ourselves whether we are a bit wild, tame, fast, slow or have a big snout.
Have a read of the story here:
Today, as our follow up activity, we went outside to create some art of ourselves. It was hot, so we had our hats on and access to water but we loved creating. We started by watching Mrs S lie on the ground and be drawn around by Miss Sutherland. Mrs S then showed how we can decorate ourselves.
The best bit was that we got to get into pairs and then have a turn lying on the concrete and being drawn around.
Check out our photos.
