William's Farewell Photo show

Sadly our wonderful class member is leaving us at the end of the year to go to a new school. William has been a special part of our class and school community. We are all a bit sad to see him, and his wonderful teacher aide, leave. This is a photo slide of his time in our class for the past few years.

Friday Fun

We had a wonderful day on Friday. We spent time creating a range of things around our Open Minded Explorer theme and our trip to Orana Park.

Then Mrs S and Mrs G took us on an 'outing' to visit the school pool. It was such a hot day it was a relief to be able to dip our toys into the cool water.

Orana Park Trip

What a fantastic day Friday was. We were so impressed with the smiles, listening, thinking and involvement everyone had as we travelled around Orana Park and learnt about animals and how we can help to change their lives.

Thanks to all our wonderful parents who came along and supported the children in their learning.

This Week's Writing Task

Walt: write a recount using Book Creator.

We are all working on writing recounts about Show Weekend. We are learning how to do it using Book Creator. Some of us are sharing them on our own blogs and some of them are shared here.

We hope you enjoy reading them.

A pet filled week

Show Week was a busy week at YMS.

We had a visit from the SPCA to talk to us about animal care. They brought a few pets along for us to pet, it was a wonderful experience.

Wednesday was Pet Day and we got to create veggie sculptures and sand saucers. We brought our pets along and then we participated in Hobby Horse racing and Agri-Sports. What a fun day.

Here are some photos taken over the two days. Enjoy!

Literacy Time in Te Pihinga

Here is a look into our morning.

Mr Robertson is reading the Big Book. The Three Billie Goats Gruff is coming alive.

Our personalized learners are setting up their week. They have to reflect on how they managed their learning last week and set goals for this week.

Miss Rockell is taking a reading group. They are reading about snails. Excellent discussion is happening around how hard it is to process meat versus vegetables.

William is having his 10 minutes reward time for completing his writing. Great to see William making the most of the space and zooming through his work.

It is a busy place in Te Pihinga but there is so much learning going on.

Birthdays and Math Whizz

The holiday's were a busy birthday time. We had a number get a year older. We had to write a number of birthday certificates. Check out all our 'old' students.

This term we are working all together to become great Math Whizzers. Because we are now one class we all have the ability to be top of the Most Improved. Top of the chart at the moment is Parwin. She had this to say:

The thing I like about maths whizz is that it teaches you things that are in maths like addition subtraction and many other stuff and every day I try and do 60 minutes a day or 30 minutes.

A great encouragement to the rest of us Parwin.

A good first week so far.
Here are a couple of photo's from our Year 4 Athletics practise, well our 'fun' sprinting practise anyway.

Te Pihinga's First Day

Today was our first day in our new classroom.

Miss Carr and Mrs Spragg where at school super early making sure it was as perfect as it could be with only a day and a bit set up. We were excited about everyone seeing the classroom and we really hoped that it would be a hit.

But watching everyone's faces as people arrived showed us that we had nothing to worry about. Everyone zipped around, looking at this and that and wondering where to put bags and food. Once that was sorted the bell rang and it was on with the show ... opps I mean school.

We tried to keep the day as 'normal' as possible. We had a Powhiri, fitness, class meeting about the new class, big book, literacy time, maths time, library visit and athletics practise. And of course the best bits of the day when we learn outside with our friends and food. ;)

Here are a few snaps from our day:
